You are here: Home > Frequently Asked Questions > The Raw diet for Cushings Disease My mother's Irish Setter has been diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. I work for a vet and recently discovered that another patient at our clinic was diagnosed with Cushing's and put their dog on a raw diet. The dog's blood tests are now in the normal range. They have not done any drug therapy. Do you feel that the raw diet could have helped this dog's recovery ? As I am sure you know a lot of vets who do not approve of raw diet and warn of illness resulting from uncooked food. What is your opinion? The whole question of raw food is really miss-information being put about by those interested in marketing prepared dog feed, which is all cooked.I wrote an article on the subject of feeding dogs which demonstrates how far we are away from their natural diet and this is to be found on the link; http://www.herbal-treatments.com/articles_digestive_system_ofadog.html You might like to read this and then, (if you dare to) show it to your employer. For your Mums dog's Cushing problem the natural diet and fasting program I recommend in the article will certainly help take the load off of the metabolism. Many metabolic health problems in dogs are simply a result of metabolic overload and that is why you heard of the case where the diet fixed the other dog completely. As you know Cushing's is a problem with the Adrenal Glands which are mounted on the kidneys and the problem can be caused by too much Cortisone treatment in which case you will need to stop with this drug in order to treat it. Otherwise it is caused by either a growth on the adrenal glands or a metabolic imbalance generally which has thrown the whole system out of balance. I recommend two separate treatments to manage the condition if it is a tumour or to support the recovery if the problem has been caused by steroid abuse or by another hormonal/metabolic imbalance. 1. My Canine Conditioning Mix described on my website at; http://herbal-treatments.com/dog_conditioning_mix.html is specifically designed to bring the metabolism back into balance and to support the normal relationship between all the organs including the adrenals with the others. A course of this will allow the metabolism to come back into balance and redistribute the load between all the various systems. 2. Cushing's Disease Support: http://www.herbal-treatments.com.au/dog_cushings_disease.html This mix contains a super antioxidant to assist the immune system in fighting any growth and the auto-immunity to reverse any problems. In addition I include specific herbs for the health of the kidneys and adrenals specifically above and beyond those included in the Conditioning Mix. This mix may be ordered just by quoting 'Cushing's Disease Support' on the online order form below my signature or found on the link to the Conditioning Treatment. A 100ml bottle costs $49.50. for 14 weeks treatment just like the Conditioning Mix. Both lots of drops (10 of each mix) may be given simply by mixing them together in a favourite food and giving them twice daily. I look forward to helping your Mum's dog get back to full health.
